With its unique glasshouses, collections of tropical plants, outdoor plantings and mature trees, Botanic Gardens is a key part of Belfast`s Victorian heritage.
The restored Palm House (1852), designed by Sir Charles Lanyon, is a masterpiece of curvilinear glass and wrought iron, displaying exotic trees and flowering plants. It consists of a dome and two wings - the cool wing and the hotter stove wing. Tall trees and flowering climbers grow in the dome whilst seasonal displays of plants are laid out on tiered staging in the cool wing. Exotic plants create a mini jungle in the stove wing.
The People`s park.Botanic Gardens is always buzzing with people, whether they`re relaxing, travelling to and from university or just taking in the sights and sounds of the park.
I remember it well, and it,s still as beautiful as it was 60 years ago..
I was hoping this was going to show a video of someone actually walking around the whole gardens area along the pathways and showing everything you see along the way. Wondered if the old "monkey puzzle" was still there? Used to love wandering around all the wee paths that were secluded from the rest of the park. perhaps this may be shown later??
this makes it look rubbish. show other parts at it doesn't show has beautiful it really is
