Situated on the tranquil shores of Strangford Lough, the impressive house and award winning gardens of Mount Stewart have a unique story to tell. Home of the Londonderry family, the house and its contents reflect the remarkable history of the family. The house, which in its day played host to prominent politicians, contains world-famous paintings.
The famous gardens at Mount Stewart were planted in the 1920s by Edith, Lady Londonderry, and are of international importance. The magnificent series of outdoor 'rooms' and vibrant parterres contain many rare plants that thrive in the mild climate of the Ards Peninsula.
There are formal and informal gardens which should be visited in different seasons. There are many stone statues in the formal garden with carvings of animals representing friends and family.
