The spectacular castle-crowned crag, on the famous north Antrim coast, was shaped when the sea cut deep into the rock. Dunluce Castle, originally occupied by the MacQuillan family and later the MacDonnells was besieged by the British in the 16th Century. An accord was eventually signed with the English monarch in the name of peace. Part of the castle broke off and the kitchen plunged into the sea, during a storm one night, killing all the cooks and kitchen-hands. There remains a dark hollow. Dunluce Castle is thought by many to be the most picturesque and romantic of Irish castles.
Visitor centre, shop and guided tours all available. Limited wheelchair access. Tours available Easter- September, Out of season Tours also available - booking is advised.
Watching the Buckaneers and remember a sunny day in Northern Ireland with my daughter last June. So if you cannot go there then this is the next best way to see it.
This castle used to belong to my ancestors.

Referring to the gentleman from the US who say's he's a direct descendant of the McQuillans, I thought he might like to know that I too are related . My Grandmother was Jean Mcquillan a great artist who lived in the South Island of New Zealand, and to whom I never met as she sadly died at age 34 one week after giving birth to my Mother Yvonne. The Mcquillans are having a Family Reunion in the South island town of NZ called Nelson on the 24th October which I am going to attend. You maybe interested,Alan
Beautiful Website!I found it because it is mentioned on another web site regarding the McAllister Clan and it's descendents. My husband and I hope to visit one day. Is it permitted? Do we need special permission to visit?Thank you for this beautiful view of a small part of your country.
For me, this is such a treat. This castle is part of my family's heritage. I am a direct descendant of the McQuillen's. I would love to travel to Ireland and walk the grounds that my ancestors did. Thanks for putting this site up!
