Parkanaur is a large, rambling romantic Tudor Revival house which has evolved through the years. Originally the land was held by the O’Donnellys until granted by James I to Sir Toby Caulfield in the early 1600s. The land remained in the ownership of the Caulfields until sold by James Caulfield (1st Earl Charlemont) in 1771 to Ynyr Burges (East Ham, Essex), who had made a fortune in the East India Company as the 'Secretary & Paymaster of Seamens Wages'.
A Magnificent interior includes the Captains Morning room, Long Gallery, Drawing Room, Lady Mountbatten Room and Library. The house boasts rich Elizabethan interiors including a minstrel gallery and a Jacobean carved wooden mantel with male and female caryatids and a certified Baroque organ case dating from 1600's.
The Manor House is open to the public offering facilities for conferencing, functions and events. Provision of on site catering and exclusive use of modern technology.
My Grandmother Sarah Caldwell (Maiden Name Doran) was the sister of Thomas Doran. I found a picture of Thomas Doran (which my Grandmother had left me) standing outside of The Manor House over 40 yrs. ago. Hopefully someday I will be able to take a trip to Ireland to see it. It looks so beautiful.Thank you,Sallie Ann O'Neill
