Barnwell Farm Cottages are situated off a quiet country road, in the heart of the Ards Peninsula, 1 mile from Strangford Lough and 2 miles from the Irish Sea coast. The location is protected from the noise and bustle of everyday life. It is tranquil and relaxing, surrounded by farmland and unspoilt countryside.

The original farmstead was built over 200 years ago.

The farmhouse and courtyard has been sympathetically restored into 7 self catering cottages. The use of traditional materials and clever design have captured the true atmosphere of a rural country cottage. This, coupled with a quality interior finish,  reflects their 5 Star Rating.

Facilities include a fully equipped laundry, a large games/function room, individual patio areas with patio furniture and gas barbeques, digital satellite TV and video, CD/radio, mobile phones, dishwashers and microwave ovens.

Flax Cottage
Set in a courtyard, Flax cottage is a charming 2 bedroom cottage with one double bed and one single bed to accommodate 3 people.

Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen/living area where natural wood is blended with luxurious furnishings to give a comfortable lived-in feel, as old and new go hand-in-hand. Upstairs hosts the two bedrooms and a bright bathroom offers the choice of bath or shower.

A rustic fireplace with wood burning stove complements the oil fired central heating. All modern appliances including digital satellite TV, video and mobile phone are provided.

Corn Cottage
As the name suggests, Corn cottage combines the rustic feel of the farmhouse with the comfort afforded by deluxe furnishings. Modern features such as digital satellite TV, video and mobile phone are available for those who want to keep in touch with the 21st Century.

Downstairs is an open plan living/dining area with hand made maple kitchen and dresser, stone floor and wood burning stove. Reclaimed pine has been used throughout to preserve as much of the old farm buildings as possible.

A half door opens out on to a raised terrace from the well appointed kitchen, perfect for relaxing, barbeques, etc...

Corn Cottage is a 2 bedroom cottage which can accommodate 5 people.

Clover Cottage
The perfect hideaway for up to 4 people. It has 2 bedrooms with double beds, and a bathroom comprising bath and shower. Clover Cottage is both quaint and comfortable.

From the exposed original beams upstairs to the large arched window of the lounge, the cottage reflects the old structure of the once-active farmstead. Old wood, rustic brick and stone floors add to the charm but go hand-in-hand with all modern appliances such as freezer, digital satellite TV, video and mobile phone. With its own private patio area, yet full use of all the amenities on site, it is a much sought after cottage.

Barley Cottage

The rustic quaintness permeates downstairs to natural wooden kitchen, dresser and dining room furniture, all are handcrafted locally using many of the original materials from the farm. A red brick fireplace houses a wood burning stove, although central heating is provided throughout and the half door opens out on to a large terrace where guests can enjoy the open air using the barbeque and patio furniture provided.

Both bedrooms, one with two single beds and the other with a double and single, have original time-worn beams, a reminder of the age of this farmstead. The bathroom is spacious and bright and has both bath and shower.

Brooks Cottage
Named after the family who occupied the farmstead for over 200 years, Brooks Cottage is one of the largest in the complex, sleeping 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms.

The Cottage comprises a spacious lounge with traditional fireplace and wood burning stove, flagged floor and pine furniture. The kitchen/dining area, crafted in reclaimed pine and maple, is fully equipped to make self-catering a pleasure, opening out on to a paved area overlooking the garden with the drumlins of County Down as a backdrop.
